One of the great evils of humanity, you will agree, is a sedentary lifestyle.
By not moving enough, our bodies stiffen and age prematurely.
We sit from morning to night on chairs or similar devices: in front of the computer, in the car, while eating, watching TV… and we gradually become paralyzed.
If you have followed the philosophy of Flores de Vida so far, you will not be surprised to hear us say that physical rigidity is linked to mental rigidity.
Simply sitting
Most of the world’s population simply sits on the ground, either directly on the floor or on a mat. In the West, we have complicated things (for a very long time) and need tables and chairs to sit on.
This way of sitting, in addition to requiring much more equipment, is very detrimental to the health and flexibility of the body.
So, there are no tables and chairs at Flores de Vida, which allows us to get a little exercise every time we sit down and stand up.
Being in contact with the earth
What’s more, sitting on the ground allows you to be in closer contact with the earth in an “organic” way (not just in your mind). It may seem obvious, but it’s clear that the part of humanity that is destroying the planet is the part that sits on chairs.
Of course, when you’re used to sitting in a chair (slumped, in fact), sitting on the ground may take some getting used to, but the benefits will far outweigh the effort involved. And if you’re a little rusty, it’s time to get serious about yoga… and soften your outlook on life.
PS: At first, a cushion, zafu, or shoggi can help you gradually adapt (and become more flexible).
PS2: Yes, it’s completely crazy and totally out of the ordinary, we agree… just like the whole Flores de Vida project is completely crazy and totally out of the ordinary.
